The Chancellor

Serve as the ceremonial head of the university and preside at convocations and major university ceremonies.

• Provide high – level ambassadorial and advocacy functions: represent the university in external forums, build relationships with government, donors, alumni and partners.
• Act as a figure of integrity and institutional continuity; promote the university’s values and reputation.
• Chair (or be a senior member of) the university council/governing board, ensuring good governance and effective oversight of the university’s long-termstrategy.
• Approve (where required by statute) appointments of the vice chancellor and other senior officers, and sign formal instruments (e.g., degrees) as required.
• Provide counsel to the vice chancellor and governing bodies on strategy, large capital projects and major policy decisions.
